MRV-ST Polariscope Strain Viewer
Rainbow Viewer for Visual Strain Inspection

A4-size LED polarized-light stage with cross Nicols, parallel Nicols and sensitive color method

MRV-ST is a visual strain inspection system for observing residual stress, strain and birefringence patterns in transparent or translucent materials such as molded plastic, glass, lenses, films and optical components.

A large A4-size LED polarized light stage and an observation analyzer make it possible to inspect a wide range of objects, from small parts to larger samples. The system supports cross Nicols, parallel Nicols and sensitive color observation with a simple, robust structure.

  • A4-size LED polarized light stage for wide-area visual inspection.
  • Cross Nicols and parallel Nicols observation for strain pattern inspection.
  • Sensitive color method helps visualize small strain differences more clearly.
  • Adjustable working distance for thick and thin samples.
  • Camera mount and smartphone adapter support documentation workflows.
  • Useful for molded plastic, glass, lenses, films and transparent optical parts.

Cross Nicols / Sensitive Color Method

Cross Nicols observation is suitable for transparent resin and other materials with relatively
large strain. Sensitive color observation is useful for glass and materials with smaller strain differences.

One Device,
Three Observation Methods

Using the front and back of a single analyzer filter allows three observation methods: cross Nicols, parallel Nicols and sensitive color method.

  • Cross Nicols: suitable for observing transparent objects with larger strain, such as injection-molded resin parts.
  • Parallel Nicols: useful for checking optical changes under a different polarization condition.
  • Sensitive Color Method: useful for glass and other materials with smaller strain differences. Subtle stress patterns become easier to see as color differences.

Large A4-Size
LED Polarized Light Stage

The high-brightness polarized light source has a large A4-size luminous surface, allowing larger specimens to be checked in their entirety. The LED light source has an approximate lifetime of 40,000 hours, reducing the need for lamp replacement.

Adjustable Macro Stand

With the macro stand, the working distance can be adjusted easily for both thick and thin samples. A digital camera or smartphone can also be mounted to support image documentation.

Live Image Sharing via HDMI

When using a compatible camera, video can be recorded in Full HD and live images can be shared on a TV or monitor via HDMI. This is useful when multiple people need to observe and evaluate the same image simultaneously.

FAQ

What types of samples are suitable for MRV-ST?

MRV-ST is suitable for transparent or translucent materials such as plastic molded parts, clear resin components, glass plates, lenses, optical filters, films and transparent panels.

What is the difference between cross Nicols and sensitive color method?

Cross Nicols observation shows stress patterns mainly as brightness differences. The sensitive color method helps visualize small strain differences as color changes, which can make subtle stress patterns easier to see.

Can I document images with a camera?

Yes. MRV-ST includes a camera mount and smartphone adapter. Camera set configurations are also available for digital documentation.
