NIR Near-Infrared Polarizing Film

MIR35 series polymer absorptive polarizer film for 800-1000 nm applications

NIR polarizing film is designed for polarization control in the near-infrared wavelength range, especially around 800 nm, 850 nm, 900 nm and 950 nm.

Unlike delicate wire-grid polarizers that require careful surface handling, the MIR35 series can be handled more like standard polarizer film, making it easier to cut, clean and integrate into optical systems.

Features of MIR35 Series NIR Polarizing Film

Comparison Point MIR35 Series Wire-Grid Type
Stray reflection / scattering Does not occur in the same way as wire-grid surface structures. May occur depending on surface structure and optical geometry.
Handling Can be handled like general polarizer film. Surface contact and rubbing may require special care.
Cutting workability Similar to general film. May require special cutting or handling methods.
Durability High durability under severe conditions. May be affected by temperature, humidity and surface exposure.

Coating Types: Low-Reflection LR and Hard-Coat HC

Low-Reflection Type <LR>

Equipped with a low-reflection function for applications where higher light transmittance and reduced reflection are important.

LR type may have a stain-resistant surface, so adhesive bonding should be evaluated with the actual material and process.

Hard-Coat Type <HC>

Equipped with a scratch-resistant hard-coat surface. It is suitable where handling durability is important.

HC type may have slightly lower light transmittance than LR type, but it can be bonded to the HC surface using adhesive or PSA after evaluation.

Biometrics and Machine Vision

In NIR imaging systems, polarizing film can reduce unwanted reflection from illumination sources and improve visibility of target features.

It is especially useful where the system uses near-infrared light for recognition, inspection or sensing.

Durability of MIR35 Series NIR Polarizer Film

Test Conditions Judgment Criteria
High-temperature durability 105 °C x 500 h After testing, the single transmittance at 870 nm ((Tpol-p + Tpol-c) / 2) shall remain within ±5 points of the initial value.

After testing, the degree of polarization at 870 nm shall remain within -3 points from the initial value.

No peeling or cracks caused by thermal shock, and no abnormal visual appearance.
Heat-and-humidity durability 60 °C x 90% RH x 500 h
Low-temperature durability -40 °C x 1000 h
Thermal shock -40 °C x 0.5 h ⇔ +85 °C x 0.5 h - 200 cycles

FAQ - NIR Near-Infrared Polarizing Film

Q What wavelength range is this film intended for?
A It is mainly intended for near-infrared applications around 800-1000 nm, with useful polarization effects also in the visible red to near-infrared region above approximately 600 nm.
Q Is this a wire-grid polarizer?
A No. The MIR35 series is a polymer absorptive-type NIR polarizer film. It can be handled more like standard polarizer film than delicate wire-grid polarizers.
Q What is the difference between LR and HC types?
A LR is the low-reflection type, suitable when higher transmittance and reduced reflection are important. HC is the hard-coat type, suitable when scratch resistance and handling durability are important.
Q Are adhesive-backed versions available?
A Yes. Both adhesive and non-adhesive versions are available, including full-size and sample-size sheets.
